What is Aboriginal Art? by Margo Birnberg
Wherever we look around us we are surrounded by art; be it graffiti, the so-called street art; wearable art, (yes, fashion can be art too) paintings, sculptures and architecture. It is all art. It is not always beautiful, but who said art must always be beautiful? From the beginning of humanity people had a need for art, for expressing their desires, dreams and fears. Adornment of the body, cave paintings, pecked out designs in Rick surfaces; art is part of being human. We can find examples of this all over the world. Art is the history and the expression of today's modern culture.Prehistoric art fascinates us to this day; we sense in it our own development as humans. Australian Aboriginal art, which is still practised today, gives us a glimpse of our own past.
