Warlmanpa plants and animals: Aboriginal biocultural knowledge from Tanami desert country, central Australia

The results of a study of Warlmanpa plant and animal knowledge undertaken in the Tanami Desert and Tennant Creek area of central Australia by traditional knowledge custodians, linguists and biologists are presented. Warlmanpa names and uses of plants and animals, scientific names and common English names for 234 plants and 221 animals are included. Introductory chapters include Warlmanpa seasons, terms for implements and tools, and plant and animal types. Warlmanpa biological knowledge is categorised in later chapters. Indices of common names for animal and plants, and Warlmanpa plant and animal names are provided; 99 plants and 113 animals are illustrated.
