Who is Katniss Everdeen?

What is The Hunger Games about?

16 year old Katniss Everdeen has her hands full providing for her family in their tough life in the slums of District 12; when she is forced to compete in a nationally broadcasted show where the premise is kill or be killed.

Swept away to the Capitol – a shiny “Utopia” – to be paraded in front of its residents, and then to the formidable Arena, where death lurks around every corner, Katniss must rely on her wit and survival skills to stay alive. But will these be enough when the odds are never in her favour...? ...

I adored this book. Collins' writing is readable and engaging, and the characters she has created are some of the most inspiring I have ever read about. Reading The Hunger Games also brings with it the opportunity to discuss with other readers: What would you do if you were in Katniss's position?

How much of Katniss' participation in the Hunger Games was chance and how much was something more sinister? And most importantly, Are you team Gale or team Peeta? (there is only one right answer – I'll tell you after you've read it!)

Once you're finished with The Hunger Games, follow Katniss' story in Catching Fire and Mockingjay. All these books and more (including prequels The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping).

So hop on over, get yourself a copy of The Hunger Games and get ready for an unforgettable read!
