Review of Kid by Peter Carnavas

“Kid”, by Peter Carnavas is a 2026 novel based on the baby goat, Kid, who grew up hearing of the marvellous adventures his parents had been having since they chased a fox out of their farm and up the mountain, never to return, but protecting from afar. Kid always wanted to be just like them, brave enough to protect everyone from predators, but he never quite felt one with the other farm animals. he dreamt of finding his parents and learning what it meant to be a proper goat. So, Kid sets off on a journey to find them and restore his family. His journey leads him up the mountain, to uncharted territory, and alongside Audrey the hen and Harriet the pig,  discovers the truth behind the night his parents vanished from the farm. Kid learns the true meaning of family, and that it is not always blood that ties people together.

“Kid” displays how connections shape us, and how we rely on people to help us and guide us through life when we are at our most vulnerable. Although aimed for a younger audience, Carnavas’ novel is truly a heartfelt and meaningful story about courage, belonging, and friendship, leaving readers with an important message of identity, love, and finding where you truly belong.
