Meet Indigenous Australian Author, Cecily Napanangka Granites at Red Kangaroo Bookshop

On Saturday, 1st June, immerse yourself in the cultural heritage of the Warlpiri people as we celebrate the release of “Yawulya from Yuendumu”. Meet and chat with Cecily Napanangka Granites and co-author Kathryn Thompson-Ferry at this special Q&A event at the Red Kangaroo Bookshop, facilitated by ABC Radio's, Meredith Lake .

About Yawulyu from Yuendumu

Yawulyu from Yuendumu offers a rare and detailed look into the Warlpiri people's cultural ceremonies, including body painting, dance, and song. It's a unique opportunity to get to learn from these ancient traditions that are not widely known.

In this book, co-authored with her friend Katie Thompson, Cecily explores her connection to the sacred Jukurrpa - the Dreaming stories and Ceremonies that are the heartbeat of Warlpiri women's heritage. As Cecily confronts personal trials and the challenges Indigenous Australians face, her story emerges as a formidable testament to the strength of cultural legacy. This book, featuring powerful photos by Noel Ferry, is essential for those seeking to understand Indigenous Australians and the unbreakable bond between the people and the land. A website and a YouTube channel accompany this book. The URLs can be found within the book.

About the author, Cecily Napanangka Granites

Raised in Yuendumu, Central Australia, Cecily Napanangka Granites follows in the footsteps of her mother, Dolly Nampijinpa Daniels, a revered Lawwoman. Cecily's role as a cultural guardian is vividly portrayed through her experiences as a bilingual teacher and her involvement in the aftermath of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (NT) of 1976.
